7/9/2010 NEWPORT, RI TO FAIRHAVEN, MA

Shortly after 8:00 AM we set out from our home for the last few days and ventured on to new waters. It started out as a nice day with clam waters and progressed to rough, rougher then totally fogged in, traveling by radar. What an experience and not an especially good one either. At one point we know there was a large boat less than 200 yards in front of us but couldn’t begin to see her. Once we sighted the Shady Lady we followed her through the fog shrouded waters and celebrated the clearing skies as we neared the entrance to the Acushnet River and our day’s destination at Fairhaven Shipyard Companies North Yard.

This is really a working shipyard with huge marine travel lifts for haul-outs and services for repairs, refits, renovations and regular maintenance. The pump was here and waiting for our pick up. Dan found all the other supplies he needed to make the pump change plus the correct (and oft hard to find) engine oil and filters. This was truly a golden find for us.

Once the engines “kind of” cooled down, Dan began his tedious repairs in the tight engine compartment. Close work for a big guy. Once he got into the job he found another leak that he felt was the real problem and ended up replacing the water pump on the engine. Now we have a transmission oil pump in hand, ready and waiting for the need.

MEN AT WORK

By 8:00 PM Dan was done for the day. We cleaned up our huge mess and our messy selves and took off in search for dinner. We found a happening little eatery, Elizabeth’s, and enjoyed tuna steaks and Pizza while watching the locals uniting for a Friday night outing in July.
