7/2/2010 BRIDGEPORT TO WESTBROOK, CT

We are getting good at this “casting off” thing. No biggie! The sailing school kids gave us a wave and sent us on our way.

TEACHING THE YOUNG

Beautiful blue skies hovered above us most of the day as we motored through the Long Island Sound and watched the boats scurrying on their way.

BLUE SKIES, ALL OF THEM BLUE SKIES

NORDIC TUG

As we approached the entrance to Westbrook we found these cute cottages lining the beach with pre-holiday beach goers. After maneuvering the narrow inlet and dodging outgoing boats, we tied up at our berth and made ourselves at home.

WELCOME TO WESTBROOK

WATCH THE SAIL BOAT TO YOUR PORT!

NAME- "OPEN HOUSE", VERDICT-OMG

Westbrook is the home of the submarine. In 1776 David Bushnell created his first machine, the American Turtle, of wood and steel. It was hand powered and submerged when the ballast tanks were filled. And I guess the “rest in history”.

We had dinner right out our door on the deck of the bustling Boom. Fish, salads and steaks were good but the red onion rings were fabulous!  Distant fireworks capped off the evening.
BOOM
After dinner we rushed to play a few hands of Fan Tan and then Richard and Robert solved the world’s problems before turning in for the night.

WE CAN ALL REST EASY, THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS ARE NOW IN GOOD HANDS
