6/10/2010 BELHAVEN TO ROANOKE ISLAND

CRAB TRAP MARKER

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TALIA!! BIG #8!

Dan and Dick had a busy morning assisting the departing boats get off the docks. With the swift current and wind pushing you back into the dock, it was nearly impossible to get off. Guess nearly is the key work because we all made it off ok and Dan had no dockside assistance. Nice job!

We traveled in some very narrow, marshy channels today and were seeing the nesting Osprey again.

NARROW

MARSHY CHANNEL

OSPREY

Must be flight training day at a nearby base because we were treated to quite as show by the circling F16s. Fast, sleek and impressive!! The things you see in the ICW.

We decided to spend the night on Roanoke Island which is across from Nags Head on the Outer Banks. The area is known for its early settlers that inhabited the island from 1585 until their disappearance in 1587. The Lost Colony’s fate still remains an unsolved mystery.

MANTEO WATERFRONT MARINA

This is a nice marina, outside the ICW, well protected from the wind and current with shops and restaurants right at the docks.
