43/4/2011 NEW RIVER, FORT LAUDERDALE

DAY FIVE FOR DAN

FRIDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 0 NM

Instead of dissipating in force, the wind just keeps blowing stronger and stronger. Even in the narrow New River we are feeling its intensity. Sure glad we are not waiting to make the crossing to or from the Bahamas like so many others are.

Since Dan got out of class today during daylight hours, I rode to meet him and we meandered around a bit in our way back to the boat. The cool wind makes riding quite nice. We decided to ride back over the New River and make for Tom Jenkins BBQ at 1236 S. Federal Highway for a tasty dinner. Even though we arrived before 7:00 PM the tiny place was packed. You place your order at the counter and join the crowd to wait for your food. Many people come for takeout while others gather at the community picnic tables to eat right there.

After dinner we rode for an hour through the busy Las Olas district, over canals and down quiet residential streets before retiring back to our Quest for the night. Dan, the ever diligent student, has class again tomorrow and needs his rests but tomorrow might be a late night – like maybe until 9:00 or so!!
