3/7/2011 NEW RIVER, FORT LAUDERDALE AND THE MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE

MONDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 0 NM

After finishing up my morning chores I was off to the Museum of Discovery and Science. The huge Gravity Clock at the entrance was fascinating to watch. Unfortunately Monday seemed to be a good time for school field trips, at least this Monday proved to be . There were kids trying out the many hands-on exhibits, just as they were supposed to do. There were flight simulators, gravity demonstrations, opportunities to try your hand at programming a simple robot and lots of thought provoking exhibits.

I found it a little quieter in the marine exhibits. Did you know that a lobster’s teeth are located in his stomach? Or that the sex of alligators is determined by the temperature of the nest? If, during the first three weeks of development, the nest’s temperature is above 91, the alligators will be males. If, on the other hand, the temperature is below 85, they will be females. Now what if the temperature falls between those numbers? Why, the nest will contain both male and females. These critters were on the verge of extinction during the 60s but have staged a huge comeback due to regulatory hunting laws and species protection movements.

LOOK AT THIS SPINNEY CHARACTER!

ALLIGATORS IN THE MUSEUM

I am going to include a little photo that Robert sent showing the lovely Vermont weather today. Yes, that is his car buried under the snow. Sure glad I am here!

I also found this great picture of my granddaughter Takara on her Facebook site and look, no braces. She just got them off and look at that beautiful smile!!

  1. We are having a competition to see who has the nicer teeth...right now Takara is winning, but only if she wears her retainer...now wouldn't that suck if you lose to your 40 year old mother? Good incentive...
