3/11/2011 NEW RIVER, FORT LAUDERDALE AND DAN PASSED HIS TEST

FRIDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 0 NM

Good thing I picked up the rental car because Dan was in dire need of it this morning! When he went out to hop onto his bike and head for the school, he found that someone had cut his bike lock and absconded with it. Bummer! Since there was so much activity going on from about midnight until 4:30 AM with the crashing boats we couldn’t quite figure out when it happened.

MUST HAVE BEEN A GUY! THEY JUST SNIPPED THE ONE BIKE LOCK
AND TOOK OF WITH DAN'S BIKE.

Dan’s day at school was really a short one. He was the first one to finish all four of the exams and passed with flying colors! Now he has to compile all his qualifications, finish filling out the extensive application and submit it for approval. Unfortunately some of the paperwork needed is in the safe in Vermont but he has a year to make his application.

After class Dan made the rounds of the “boating” stores and got the needed supplies for the maintenance work that must be done, unglamorous things like changing the engine oil, replacing filters, switching out the faulty oil pressure gage and installing new light fixtures in the salon. When he returned to Quest we headed to the Fort Lauderdale police department to file a report on the bike theft then sought out another BBQ joint for lunch.

We had a great evening on Garth and Catherine’s Algonquin. They have just recently gotten their boat, done no traveling yet and are eager to learn any trick of the trade. Their Hatteras is a bit smaller but very similar to our Quest. They plied us with some great pate, yummy cheeses and tasty margaritas while we all exchanged stories. They are the ones that got hit by the wacky sailboat last night. What a welcome to boating!
