9/7/2010 FRANKFORT AND STORMY

Wind driven waves and gusty air was pretty bad when we arrived here yesterday but it has intensified today. All the boaters are out checking their lines and fenders frequently. The tall-masted sailing ship left this morning but I don’t think anyone else ventured from the “little” lakes safety.

WAVES OFF THE STERN IN THE LITTLE BETSIE LAKE

My beloved Kindle reader had some kind of coronary today and I spent a bit of the morning on the phone with Amazon/Kindle. Seems there is no hope but they have already shipped a replacement out. Unfortunately, they cannot ship it to a post office but only to my registered address so Val will have to re-ship it to me. She takes such good care of us from her perch in the office!

Today was Sam’s US Open match with Wawrinka and it was a real “nail biter”. It went all five sets, over four hours, before Warwinka managed to take it. Both guys played extremely well and it was exciting to watch. It was a great run, Sam!

We returned to Quest to find the dingy full of water and in dire need of realignment. So, with wind gusting to 30, Dan and I climbed down the rock embankment where we had her tied up in front of Quest. We wrestled her close, drained some of the water out and repositioned her.

TUMULTUOUS SKIES AND WINDSWEPT TREES

This wind is just too wild. The flags were all flying at full attention and trees bending to the wind’s will. Boy, when Labor Day comes to Lake Michigan summer is really over. The dock hand told us he has lived here forever and never seen such intense wind this early in the season. Lucky us! Guess we will just have to wait it out and hope for the best. That is, after retying the lines and readjusting the fenders, yet again.
