9/10/2010 PENTWATER TO SAUGATUCK, MI

FRIDAY

We are off again on this brilliant morning and headed to Saugatuck, MI. The harbor was alive with activity this morning with boats fueling, untying and making ready to take advantage of another beautiful travel day. We are grateful to be on the move again.

Pulling into Lake Michigan we found the previously rather lonely horizon was speckled with scads of fishing trawlers eager to escape the confines of their harbors and sailboats skimming the waters.

SAILERS DELIGHT

Approaching Little Sable Point we had a “blast from the past” spotting dune buggy and four wheelers cavorting in the sand dunes. Boy, we sure spent a lot of hours in our buggies racing up the sand hill in Glamis, Dumont and Pismo Beach.
KINGS OF THE HILL

Just before Little Sable Lighthouse we passed a discernable line in the water caused by a shift in the wind direction. Our speed diminished immediately by more than ½ mile per hour. Strange!

LIGHTER WATER IN FRONT AND DARK IN BACK.

With lots of easy travel time on our hands today, we both became engrossed with projects. I cleaned and oiled the kitchen wood and Dan polished the chrome railing. Poor Quest had been somewhat neglected and needed some of our loving attention. Looking good now!
We neared the approach to the channel that would take us to Saugatuck on Kalamazoo Lake and began to see some pretty spectacular homes. This artist retreat is only about 90 miles across the lake from both Chicago and Milwaukee and filled with galleries, restaurant and upscale boutiques.

HOW IS THIS FOR SOME PRIME REAL ESTATE?

ANOTHER SPECTACULAR HOME ON
KALAMAZOO LAKE

Since the dockage fees were pretty outrageous, we opted to anchor in the lake and BBQ burgers for dinner.
Music from the nearby bar entertained us until the wee-wee hours.

Tomorrow will lower the dink and go ashore to explore and visit the post office to pick up my Kindle replacement. Thank goodness, reading small print books is for the birds.
