9/22/2010 HERITAGE HARBOR MARINA AND PICKING UP PROP

WEDNESDAY

MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 0

Great news! Come get the prop!! And we were off to Chicago before 10:30. I had almost forgotten what real freeway traffic could be like when an accident clean up is in the works. About 2 miles before the exit from I-80E to 55N, we came to a near standstill. We inched forward at a snail’s pace, watching the helicopter circling and the red tail lights glowing in front of us. The local news report that a truck had turned over in the loop from I-80 W to 55 S. Whoa! It was a concrete truck and they had to cut open the cab to get the driver out. Scary sight!

Once at Airmarine, things are looking up. Our bright, shiny prop was put in the van and we headed back for the installation.

BRIGHT AND SHINY

We made a slight deviation on the way back. Having seen the signs for the Bass Pro Shop, we decided to let Dan have some perusing the boy-toys. Luck was, however, with us girls and found the IKEA store to occupy our time. I haven’t been in an IKEA store since way before we moved from California and it was a first for Debbie. We ogled our way through, taking it all in.

Next we stopped at Portillo’s Hot Dogs for a Chicago Style Hot Dog, with all the works. This time I remembered to take a photo before gobbling it up. Remember, it has bun, dog, mustard, relish, pickle, tomato, onion, hot peppers and celery salt.

We made a quick stop at the Lowe's to get replacement light fixtures for the kitchen then scooted on back to the marina to wait for the diver. Dan made good use of the time by installing the new lights in the kitchen, replacing the old, rusted ones. They look really nice.

Once there, the diver first checked the shaft to make sure it had not been bent then secured the prop back on. We are ready to go tomorrow!

MEN AT WORK!

Once again, we really must thank all those wonderful folks at Heritage Harbor Marina for welcoming us and making this “not so pleasant” incident into an enjoyable visit. Thank you all!
