10/03/210 DAY 4 AT GREEN TURTLE BAY MARINA AND "WORK?'

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVEN!!

SUNDAY

MILES TRAVELED TODAY; 0 NM

Yet another beautiful, crisp, Fall-like morning. Thank you-Thank you!

Dan continued on his polishing and waxing of the Quest and I walked into town for a little exercise and to check out the little IGA Market. No romaine lettuce, butternut squash or pears but lots of the basic staples. The village was busy on a Sunday with folks coming out of church and heading to Patti’s 1880 Settlement for lunch and an afternoon’s amusement. I thought you all might appreciate the “Pink Tractor” displayed in front of the establishment with the same name.

Passing over the train bridge I caught sight of these few turkeys strolling down the tracks. They are hard to see but look closely about midway down the photo.

SEE THE TURKEYS ABOUT MID WAY?

The Green Turtle Bay Resort is all decked out with seasonal reminders. A gentle hedging into what lies ahead, lest we forget.

THE BOUNTY OF THE HARVEST

BEDAZZLED BY BOWS

After making applesauce from my newly acquired stash of IGA apples, I took out to explore some of the resort’s sights, leaving Dan to watch the NASCAR race in peace. Hiking over to the beach I stopped in at the spa and found a beautiful indoor pool and a small workout area. The spa itself offers many additional services but the above things are open to everyone here with no additional charges.

While hiking the bush over a small hill, I stumbled over an old, much neglected cemetery and found one headstone with today’s date, October 3, carved in as the date of death for this child’s short life. The Quarles family graves were in a closely knit area while other headstones were scattered about, some tumbled over and covered with the encroaching vines and weeds.

JOHN C QUARLES

ELLEN, WIFE OF JOHN C. QUARLES

Since it was necessary to move Quest to the fuel dock to do a “pump-out,” we ended up changing our slip at the same time. We are now located on the transient dock instead of with the “full timers”. I couldn’t leave our old slip without snapping a photo of one of my new favorite boat names. Don’t you just love it? We also found that another Quest was parked at the dock. Now that is just too, too odd.

WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS----

Shortly after making the move, Dan received a call from Mark Atwood, our much valued head honcho back at Querrey Industries. Seems like Mark was in a bind and could use Dan’s help. Due to a couple of break-downs at the plant, Jake was not able to go with the crew to Evart, MI to do an installation for Cannon Equipment. The guys were there but the customer wanted another body and, preferably, someone higher up on the ladder of command than just a laborer. Within an hour Dan and I were on our way to the little Paducah Airport to pick up the only rental car available on a Sunday evening. By 7:00 PM he was off! Now the funny thing is that Evart is fairly near Leland and Frankfort, where we stayed to hide from the raging in Lake Michigan. He expects to drive until he is well past Chicago then stop for a short night’s sleep before finishing his journey in the morning. This will be the first night Dan has spent off the Quest since boarding in January.

DAN AT THE START OF HIS LONG DRIVE TO EVART, MI

I am now holding down the fort, so to speak. Thank goodness we are in such a well protected marina and, no matter what, I won’t have to deal with waves crashing over the breakwater and huge wind swells like we faced in Lake Michigan.

We are nothing if not flexible!
