10/11/2010 GREEN TURTLE BAY TO PEBBLE ISL MARINA, TN

MONDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 57 NM

NOW WE ARE IN TENNESSEE

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY DICK AND CHERYL HANSON!!

We are finally on our way, can you believe it? By 9:30 we had fuelled up and on our way through the short Barkley Canal that connects Barkley Lake to the more spacious Kentucky Lake. Once on the Kentucky, we again began to see barges being guided by their tows, houseboaters meandering in and out of inviting coves and fishermen patiently casting their lines.

SO LONG, GREEN TURTLE BAY MARINA!

TOW WITH A 3X5 RAFT OF BARGES

GENTLE COLOR CHANGE SURROUNDS THE BASS FISHERMEN

The foliage is just beginning to really get with it here in Kentucky, a little behind you Northerners. Oops! I guess we have now slipped into Tennessee, sometime when I wasn’t looking! Anyway, the lake is an exquisite change and we are enjoying the wide, deep and smooth waters. Even when we do meet a tow with barges we have plenty of room to maneuver out of his way without putting Quest in a precarious position.

A LITTLE SPICY COLOR

Dan was happy to get back into the “boating mode” and took a few moments to relax and enjoy the scenery.

AH, THIS IS BETTER THAN WORK ANY OLD DAY!

This small delivery ferry looked like he was moving a guy’s work truck and fun ride for those “off” hours excursions. The water version of a flat-bed truck.

WORK RIDE AND MY PLAY RIDE

These guys huddled behind the Quest to escape the wake and wind. Tough work?

JUST CRUSIN'

In Danville, TN this ferry boat passed in front of us just before we came to the “train bridge to nowhere”, followed by this derelict and partly submerged train station. It must have been something in its day but, alas, no more.

DON'T TAKE THAT TRAIN!

SEEN BETTER DAYS

Pulling into Pebble Isle Marina we were greeted first by a small aviary of heron and egrets then our old friends from Ocean Breeze, N II Wishin and Sea Estate met us at the dock to take our ropes and invite us for cocktails. Life is good! There were boats we had seen in Leland, Hammond Marina, Joliet, Hoppie’s Marina, just locked through with and Green Turtle Bay.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER

OH, THE STORIES THAT WERE BEING TOLD!
