10/06/2010 Green Turtle Bay Marina Day 7

WEDNESDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED: 0 NM

OK, so here’s the scoop on the ELEGANTE! This 63’, custom built Whiticar was commissioned in 1964 for multimillionaire J. H. Whitney. The two person crew, Captain Jack and Rene, are repositioning her to Florida where she will be presented for auction at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show at the end of October. She was painted this past winter and Rene is constantly adding coats of varnish to the sparkling wood, over 20 coats so far. The website has some fabulous photos, a “must see” video and tons of interesting information about her history and first owner. Visit http://www.motoryachtelegnte.com/

ELEGANTE LEAVING THE MARINA, HEADING FOR FLORIDA

Twice during the day one of these huge helicopters flew directly over the Quest. I don’t know what it is exactly but I am sure it is some kind of gargantuan military chopper.

BIG-BIG MAMA

My tasks today included defrosting the two fridges and applying more oil to the interior wood surfaces. Rather a low-low keyed day.

Cutie Girl, who we have bumped into several times along our journey, pulled back into the vacated slip next to Quest and they invited me over for evening cocktails.  Janet and Bert, thanks for the nice diversion and stimulating conversation.

Dan and the guys at the Michigan job are working hard to complete the job but it doesn’t look like it will be done until maybe Saturday. Dan is hoping to start his drive back to the Quest sometime on Friday, I hope.

Robert is spending his few days off in Bogota and taking advantage of his terrific Jet Blue flight perks. He flew Tuesday, will have Wednesday and Thursday for exploration and will fly back on Friday. Check out his Facebook page for some great photos.

You all remember my telling you about KelLe’s participation in the fundraising bike ride from Mammoth to Big Bear? Well today she completed the first 52 mile leg from Mammoth to Bishop and it looks to be pretty cold! KelLe, stay warm and keep peddling!
