5/18/2010 SEBASTIAN TO NEW SMYRNA BEACH CITY MARINA

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANET FISH!!!!
What a varied display of sights today. We viewed ultra homes and trailers perched on the banks of the ICW. We were gifted with the distant view of Cape Canaveral, escorted by slow paced dolphin, besieged with copulating bugs, enthralled by the hunting birds of prey and beckoned by the sight of a tiny island in the middle of the ICW.

FRIENDLY DOLPHIN

DISGUSTING BUGS!!

ISLAND IN THE SUN

We are now seeing floating markers for crab traps and even watched a boat picking up their catch for the day. Hard work.

CRAB BOAT

Today we encountered our first swing bridge as we approached Titusville’s Max Brewer Bridge and requested an opening. Thanks to all those bridge tenders who are there to assist us boaters with our ICW passages!!!

TITUSVILLE/MAX BREWER SWING BRIDGE OPENING

STARTING THROUGH

We spent the night in New Smyrna City Marina after Dan masterfully parallel parked the Quest in a space 2’ shorter than the boat. Now we all have seen Dan do this in a car but it was a sight to behold in the boat. As one lady said, “Some days you are the show and some days you are lucky enough to watch the show”. We were truly the show. First we attempted to head into a dockage that was too narrow for the Quest. After touching on both sides and finding ourselves unable to proceed further, Dan backed out and headed for a side dockage as we were switching ropes, running around like fools. Reuben an Adam, I miss you and your expertise!!!! We really did slip right into this tiny spot and Dan got several “Nice job” retorts from the folks assisting on the dock. Now I am curious as to just how we will exit tomorrow.

PARKING JOB FROM THE BOW

PRETTY CLOSE HERE TOO

We spent about an hour riding the Quest of her pesky little bugs from the decks and the salon. What a nuisance!!!

Cocktail hour was welcomed on the front deck as we watched the sun setting behind the palms on shore. Beautiful! We were able to walk all around the adjoining little town and settled on “Mexican” for dinner.

SUNSET

Since we were all feeling left out from Janet’s Birthday we rallied for a call and crashed the party. Sounds like everyone was having a great time, as usual, and we enjoyed hearing the roar int the background. Seems Charles knows New Smyrna well as he spent some time here in their art community. Small world.
