NEW YEARS EVE AND THE END OF 2011

DOCKED AT THE COMPASS CAY MARINA

SUNRISE IN THE EXUMAS: 6: 49 AM

SUNSET IN THE EXUMAS: 5:29 PM

Quest vacated her spot at Big Majors and motored on out by the “big boys”. 7 Seas was alive with activity. Dan swore that one of the jet skiers was none other than Steven Spielberg himself. While he was playing and chatting with the folks on the Pacific, the tender followed his every move.

Again, we were “Welcomed home” at the dock in Compass Cay Marina by Preston and Jamal. Holy cow, this place is full! We sidled up to the outside of the dock, nest to Mustang Sally and set out to see just who was here. Shawn, captain on My Reward, was there with the owner and family from North Carolina and we found Cee Jem had just arrived.

After securing headed to Cee Jem and grabbed Greg, Julie and the girls (the LeBreton family) for a trip in the tender to snorkel the aquarium dive spot. The girls, Jessica and Madeline, kind of liked zipping around in the tender. We saw a ray resting on the sea’s floor, a small shark checking us out, parrotfish, a sea cucumber, angelfish, wrasse, damselfish, yellowtail snapper and the army of sergeant majors that swarm the area. All in all, a most successful snorkeling adventure.

We celebrated the end of 2011 with a two family potluck with the LeBretons on Quest than watched the firework display that the marina and some of the regulars put on for us all around 10:00. Dan and I managed to hang on until nearly midnight but, well, not quite. I’ve got to tell you, the Exumas are definitely not a bad place to spend the holidays.
