4. FLAGLER MEMORIAL BRIDGE

We pulled up anchor and slipped through the Lantana Bridge’s scheduled opening then moseyed our way through West Palm Beach, past Peanut Island and North Rivera Beach and found our way into Lake Worth on the shores of North Palm Beach. Most of the day was spent ogling at either the humongous mansions or the impressive yachts docked in their back yards or one of the many marinas.

We set our anchor and began to look around. Could that red sailboat be Whisper? Sure enough, after a closer look with the binoculars, we affirmed that it was Marilyn and Vic’s. These were the folks from Newfoundland that we met in the Exumas. Later in the day we spied them dinking back to Whisper after a day spent with the government “checking in” process.

Vic and Marilyn brought us into the North Palm Beach gossip loop and we found that we were anchored just off of Jack Nicklaus' home and yacht. Later in the evening Jack and his guests motored right by us on their way out for an intimate dinner cruise on his Sea Bear. They were all setting around the table on the large aft deck and enjoying the ride.

Tiger Wood’s motor yacht, Privacy, is docked within our sight at Old Port Cove Marina. Even though he has the boat’s name all covered up (for privacy?) everyone seems to be aware of its presence and the Internet photo matches perfectly. Yes, here we are hob-knobbing with the rich and famous. OK, so we are just peeping!

GOTTA THINK IT IS THE SAME YACHT

John D. MacArthur purchased 2,600 acres here in 1954 for a mere $5.5 million and began developing the mangrove swamps and farmlands into what is now North Palm Beach. Not a bad investment!
