Since we had an appointment to meet the Peterson Fuel Barge right in front of the Swimmers Hall of Fame at 8:00, we were up and on our way out of this peaceful anchorage in plenty of time to cover the 2 miles. Unfortunately, we received a call that the barge got stuck behind a railroad bridge closing up the New River. This put him in the 7:30 to 9:00 time slot the bridges do not open for boats due to the heavy rush hour traffic on the road. Well, this put our meeting time back to 9:30 with Quest “all dressed up and no place to go”. Dan just dropped the anchor out of the designated channel and there we sat for the next 1 ½ hours. Finally the little fuel barge arrived and we were able to spend over and hour pumping in 460 gallons of diesel. What a hassle but we really saved a good $450.00 over the marina prices so it was time well spent.

HERE COMES THE FUEL! HERE COMES THE FUEL!

"FILLER UP"
Yesterday’s boat sightings were impressive but now we are finding more and more of the Top 100 Boats. Some of these guys are so big they are not able to dock in the nice marinas but must head out to the boon docks in order and hunker down with the freighters stay. Sucks to be them!????  The following rankings are taken from the Power & Motoryacht's Largest Yachts Issue published in August of this year.

#72 PEGASUS V AT 252' 3"

#71 SAMAR AT 252' 6"

#45 PACIFIC AT 279' 9"

#42 CAKEWALK AT 281'

#38 PHOENIX 2 AT 286'

#36 FOUNTAINHEAD AT 287' 11"

Our bridge openings were minimal today with only three requests made. I think the lovely Hollywood Beach Blvd. is one of my favorite bridges on the entire route.

THE LOVELY HOLLYWOOD BEACH BLVD. BRIDGE

Even with our morning’s delay we were chugging under the Sunny Isle Bridge and turning at R6A to reach our intended anchorage and meeting with Victor and Marilyn on S/V Whisper. We had met them last year in the Bahamas and enjoyed their company immensely. Whisper had received a new paint job earlier this fall and looks marvelous. Nice work Vic and Marilyn!

MARILYN AND VIC DINGY OVER TO WELCOME US

We found a calm anchorage with several boats taking advantage of its benefits. After anchoring chores were done we met Vic and Marilyn at the adjacent park for a little Happy Hour then took a short walk.

GOT FOOD?

Dinner was a potluck adventure aboard Quest with lots of stories and a riveting (maybe not so much) DVD of their visit to the iceberg off their homeland in Newfoundland. The Peterman Ice Island is about the size of New York’s Manhattan. Unbelievable!
