1. CDX ALBANY RAILROAD BRIDGE 2 MILES ABOVE COEYMANS

I was so reluctant to leave the beautiful little Catskill Marina with its serene atmosphere but soon we were heading north and catching a glimpse of Olana atop Church Hill. This 19th century mansion was the home of Fredric Church of the Hudson River School artists. The Rip Van Winkle Bridge that first opened in 1935 spanned the Hudson next.

The Middle Ground Flats was noticeably “flat” after the hilly areas we have been traveling through. We slowly worked our way towards Albany, enjoying the small towns along the shore and the barge traffic in the river. Then you come around a curve and---------well, you’re not in Kansas anymore. All of a sudden we are engulfed by industry and river commerce at the busy Albany Harbor then evidence of city life shouts to us as we pass under freeways and sight the office building of Albany.

THE RAILROAD BRIDGE SWINGS OPEN FOR THE QUEST

Quest passed under the unique Green Island Bridge and immediately slipped to the Troy Docks. Dick and Cheryl Hanson arrived for a quick one-night visit and we spent an enjoyable evening catching up and making plans for future adventures. Their Sweden trip begins on Thursday and we were delighted that they were able to slip in a visit to the Quest.
