7/31/2010 MALLET BAY

We all awoke to one of those stunning Vermont mornings – cool, calm and crystal clear. It almost took your breath away.

Ok, imagine this. Here we are in this picturesque Vermont cove. Got that picture? Calm, quiet, verdant, peaceful. What is that noise? No biggie, it is just a vibrant, school bus yellow float plane landing right here in our own back yard. Cool – yes? But wait, soon the resident seaplane started revving its engines and we got to watch it slip into the water, float out and take off. The float plane has pontoons and the seaplane floats on its fuselage. What an education we are gaining with new and unusual encounters each day.

AND HE'S OFF!

Dick and Cheryl had brought many treats for our day’s outing and we started off with fruit and scones from Sissy’s Kitchen. A great way to start the day off! Thanks!

We set off for our day trip and took in the sights. We watched bicyclers load their bikes onto the “Bicycle Ferry” to cross the waterway opening in bike path on the old train line. How cool!

The billowy clouds contrasted against the blue-blue sky to create a picture perfect backdrop for our enjoyment.

We anchored at Valcour Island, just off the NY shore. Dick made lunch while Dan and Cheryl tootled around in the dingy, checking out the shore line and nearby anchored boats. Ali got to fish off the back and Jennifer took a few minutes to enjoy the serenity of it all.

The calm waters continued throughout the day and our guests were not subjected to the extremely rough conditions that Dan and Robert experienced while moving the boat yesterday. It was, however, bouncy enough to allow our dingy engine to magically disappear without our even noticing until docking back at Malletts Bay. Oops! We are now on the lookout for a new dingy engine.

CAN YOU FIND THE MISSING PIECE?

We were able to watch Sam play in the semi-finals at the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles. He did defeat Tipsarevic (#6 seed) but it was a difficult sale. Sam and Andy Murray (#1 seed) will face off for the finals on Sunday.
