Out troop took off for a tour of the historic battle grounds at Shiloh this morning. This two day, bloody battle took place on April 6th and 7th of 1862 and was responsible for 23,746 casualties from both the Confederate and Union sides. The surprise attack began in the predawn hours when the 44,000 Confederates, under General Johnston, attacked Grant’s Union soldiers encamped at the small log Shiloh Meeting House.
