After Dan tracked down and fixed the port side filter leak we just kicked back and enjoyed the air-conditioning, Dan watching the first day of the Masters while I caught up on the Blog and did a little research.

Fort Pierce was founded during the Seminole War as a military base. During WW II, the gently sloping beaches were put to use as training grounds for amphibious assaults and is still used occasionally by Navy Seals to hone their skills.

Garth and Kathy on Algonquin finally made it out of Fort Lauderdale but not without that “first day” mishap. Garth competently backed the boat out of the slip and put it in forward. “Garth, go forward” says Kathy. “GARTH, GO FORWARD NOW!” she repeats, stepping up her intensity. Whoops, no forward. After a call to Dan and a visit from the mechanic the problem was resolved and they were finally off on their first day of cruising alone. They chose to take advantage of the favorable weather and made a long run on the outside to join us here in Fort Pierce. We were at the nearby Harbortown Marina to watch their dockage and applaud their superb execution of all things learned. We laughed at the day’s dilemmas and reveled in their resolution. They loved their day at sea and I think they are hooked!
