4/2/2011 OUR LAST DAY AND NIGHT IN FORT LAUDERDALE

SATURDAY

TOTAL MILES TRAVELED:   0 NM

SUNRISE: 7:10      SUNSET 7:38

HIGH: 84               LOW: 67

We spent a lovely morning chatting with our neighbors to oor starboard side, Linda and Al on the M/Y Signature III. They are planning on a trip to the Bahamas in two weeks and were eager to hear all of our tales. I don’t know how the morning disappeared but our plans to depart today kind of melted away as the day progressed.

The afternoon was spent lollygagging on Las Olas with Joan and Jerry from N II Wishin. We stopped for an afternoon “pick-me-up” at Rico’s Tacos then wandered in and out of the many shops lining the streets.

By the time we got back to the boats it was time to gather the troops on Quest for the day’s stories then walking the busy beach street in search of dinner.

The International Swimming Hall of Fame is adjacent to our marina slips and busy with practicing swimmers, exhibitions and competitive meets. Here’s a tidbit for those of you from the “Baby Boomer” era. Humorist Art Linkletter, a world class swimmer, was a contender for a spot in the 1932 Olympic Trials. Due to an untimely case of poison ivy, he was unable to compete but his times were good and he very well might have made the team to represent the USA in the backstroke.
