ANCHORED AT BIG MAJORS SPOT
SUNRISE IN THE EXUMAS: 6: 49 AM
SUNSET IN THE EXUMAS: 5:30 PM
We heard the most bizarre radio call on this New Years Day morning. It seems that the tender for M/V Hope had turned up, unmanned, on one of the little islands and they were trying to locate the “mother ship”. Later, as we pulled into Big Majors Spot we saw that they were, once again, reunited. You think maybe there was some New Years Eve partying going on last night??
Nearing time for Robert and Steffi’s flight arrival we headed to the little Staniel Cay Airport and made ourselves comfortable in the “terminal”. More and more folks began to arrive, some waiting to pick up passengers while others were departing the island after the holidays. I began to wonder just how large the plane just might be, and how could it possibly land on this tiny runway? Meanwhile we were not sure that Robert and Steffi had made the connection in Nassau. The JetBlue flight landed in Nassau at 1:00, they had to clear customs and immigration and make it to the Flamingo gate for a 2:00 departure.
PATIENTLY WAITING IN THE "TERMINAL" FOR THIER ARRIVAL |
Finally the plane arrived. No Steffi and Robert! Whoops, wrong plane. Another little plane landed then another and still another. It was like an anthill, people and little planes all over the runway! And then there they were, full of smiles and happy to be here in the balmy Exumas.
THEY MADE IT! |
Our first stop was the Staniel Cay Yacht Club where we introduced Steffi to Conch over a late, late lunch snack then toted them on to Quest. It was a short evening as Robert had worked all night before their 6:00 AM flight from Burlington and, well, it’s always an early night for Dan and me.
