TOTAL MILES TRAVELED TODAY: 40 NM
After an extremely rough night with heavy winds and surging waves, Dan was more than ready to move on and find a dock with more protection. John arrived at the Quest and by 9:30 the two of them were leaving the dock to catch the 9:40 opening of the Cortez Bridge. This was a “guys” day on the Quest and I happily spent the day with Joann and Debbie. After Debbie had finished all her holiday cookies and packed up for her return trip to Jacksonville, we girls had a tasty lunch at Anna Maria Oyster House. Debbie generously treated us then took off on her four hour drive home. Thanks Debbie!
The guys thought everything was going smoothly when they arrived at the second bridge, the Siesta Key Drawbridge, right on time for the next opening. Unfortunately, when the bridge tender lowered the restraining bar for the road traffic one truck kind of ignored it and smashed right through it. This stopped the bridge from opening for boat traffic for over an hour. The guys arrived at the Royal Palm Marina in Engelwood about
4:00 PM. Joann and I made the drive in about an hour and arrived just in time for cocktails. Thanks John and Joann for making our visit to the Bradenton area such a great one. We really enjoyed the wonderful music, the fun night at the dog track, baking cookies, dining on delicious meals and relaxing in your beautiful home.
