9/20/2010 OTTAWA, IL AMD DELIVERING THE PROP TO AIRMARINE

MONDAY

MILES TRAVELED TODAY:  0

LATE WILD ROSE

After spending many hours this past weekend investigating the world of propellers, Dan made a call to Airmarine in Chicago and was given the go to deliver our damaged prop to them for inspection and analysis. We piled into the Heritage Harbor Marina’s courtesy van and sped off towards Chicago. (Thank you, thank you again for your continued hospitality and generosity.) If you will remember, it took us two good days to cruise to Ottawa. It took us about 1 hour and 10 minutes to reach Airmarine which was located across from Midway Airport.

Once there, Jerry carefully examined our poor baby then did a “Prop-Scan” to fully determine the damage to the prop. He determined that, even though badly bent, the integrity and strength was intact and it would be worth trying to fix. He hoped to have a progress report for us tomorrow but ended up calling us late in the evening with good news. They had started working on it and it looks fixable! We may be able to pick it up late Wednesday or first thing Thursday morning. That is good news! We are still on the lookout for another set of used props to carry as a spare, something all good “Loopers” should have on board.

AIRMARINE, OUR SAVORIES

JERRY TOTING THE DAMAGED GOODS

We seem to have an oddball sized prop, 28” diameter by 21” pitch. The pitch indicates how far the boat will move forward in one revolution. Thus, Quest will progress 21” with one rotation. Just some of the tidbits that Dan discovered in his investigations.

After delivering our prop, Dan dropped Debbi e and I off at the Container Store to peruse their wares while he went on to West Marine, yet again. He found a small flag pole to display the American Great Loop Cruisers Association flag that Ed had given to us yesterday. Debbi and I stumbled upon a Trader Joe’s and our day was complete!!

Once back on Quest, Dan quickly mounted the front Loopers flag on our new little mini-pole and now we look semi-professional.  Thanks Connie and Ed!
